Schultz is fit again and aiming for Athens

European 400 metres champion Ingo Schultz will take part in eight meetings this year as he bids to claim an Olympic spot with Germany.

Schultz suffered a disappointing 2003 season which saw him fail to make the final of the World Championships in Paris before discovering that he had been suffering from glandular fever for many months

But the 28-year-old is hoping to have put that behind him now and is now chasing a place in Athens.

His first outing will be in Bremen on May 16 followed by an appearance in Verden a few days later, however he will only take part in the shorter distances of 100 and 200 metres at those events.

His season will begin in earnest on May 31 in Rehlingen before meetings in Dessau, Cottbus and Erfurt set the stage for the German National Championships in Braunschweig on July 10-11.

Schultz said: "How it continues until Braunschweig depends on my performances, but the main aim of the season is obviously the Olympics."
