Roman Sebrle, the World Decathlon record holder had a smooth weekend (15-16 Feb) in Erkki Nool´s Reval Cup. He was the clear winner of the Heptathlon with his 7th best career score of 6228 points.

This year only Russian Lev Lobodin is better (6412 at the Russian Championships and was a late withdrawal in Tallinn). Sebrle´s result was the fifth best in the history of Tallinn meeting. The Czech indoor and outdoor 2002 European Champion produced the best marksin Long Jump and High Jump on the first day (Saturday 15 Feb) and was the overall leader from the second event.

On Sunday (16 Feb) he started with only 8.11 at 60m Hurdles - "That was nothing special, here I can see that I need some more training, which I missed due to my calf problems".

Then he went to the Pole Vault and achieved 4.85 - "Not bad, of course I wanted more, but we played the game with soft poles, we should have made a better decision. The two jumps on 4.95 were not bad, so I think I can clearly improve in this event.”

In the last event at 1000m he finished second just over 2:42 - "Here I was satisfied, I ran exactly what we agreed with my coach. I know if necessary my abilities are at around 2:38".

At the end of the day he was satisfied with his result - "We came here to have a good competition and that task was fulfilled. I need more training (to make up for that) which I missed in January, my peak will come in Birmingham. I’m looking forward to that competition, there I should be in the best possible shape. I still have the Czech national Championships, where I will compete in one or two events, and maybe also at one of the March meetings to check my shape," said Sebrle, who achieved his third win from four outings in Tallinn (wins in 2000 and 2001 and second in 1999).
