Athletics South Africa has announced that it will send a men's team of five athletes to compete in the first IAAF World Road Running Championships (20km) in Debrecen, Hungary, on 8 October 2006, while a team of four women will represent South Africa at the Southern Region Half Marathon Championships on Mozambique on 23 September 2006.

The men's team will be led by Norman Dlomo who at last year's World Half Marathon Championships in Edmonton, Canada, finished in a creditable 10th place. Dlomo will be joined by a formidable group of George Mofokeng, Enos Matelane, Mphuthumi Ngedle and Lusapho April and they will go all out to improve on last year's 7th placing in the team competition.

Poppy Mlambo will lead South Africa's challenge in the Southern Region Half Marathon Championships. Also included in the team are Ronel Thomas, Irvette van Blerk and Zinhle Xiniwe.

At last year's Championships in Seychelles the South Africa women's team brought home a gold and silver medal.
