St Kitts scores 3peat in the Leeward Islands Youth Athletics Sports Meet at Warner Park

St Kitts scored a resounding victory on May 8-9 where they emerged champions of the Leewards Youth Athletics Meet held at Warner Park, Basseterre. Capturing the championship for the third consecutive year and defeating their nearest rival, the British Virgin Islands, by 123.5 points.

Living up to expectations of their coach and manager, the St Kitts team, with a total of 341.5 points captured 38 gold medals, 18 silver and 24 bronze, for their impressive 3 peat.

Highest individual scores came from Oneial Williams (10 pts) in the Girls Under 11 years old category; Kenrod Roberts (19 pts) in the Boys under (11) category; Crystal Mike (15 pts) in the Girls Under 13 category; Lenniel Warner (17 pts) in the Boys (Under 13) category and James Henry (8 pts) in the Boys category.

Anguilla took third place with a total of 149 points; fourth came Nevis with 143.5 points and bringing up their rear (fifth) was Antigua and Barbuda with 131 points, almost 200 points behind the winning team.

The St Kitts team has firmly established its supremacy in Leeward Islands Athletics by winning the meet for the third consecutive year. The previous editions took place in 1998 in Tortola, British Virgin Islands and 1997 Anguilla.

Eleven records were broken in this year’s competition and one was equalled. The details are as follows:

High Jump – U13 Boys: Loren Walwyn: 5’ (BVI) U 15 Girls Rosaley Glasford: 4’11" (St Kitts).
Cricket Ball Thrown – U 11 Boys: Robert Edgecombe; Girls: Glencia Richardson: 121" 08" (Anguilla)U 13 Boys: Denel Richards; 193’ 02" (Antigua); Girls Sandesah Rogers: 163’ 10" (Anguilla)
Shot Put – U 15 Boys Gabriel Dore: 39’ (Nevis)
400M – Under 11 Boys: Kenrod Robert: 64.3 (St Kitts).
800M – U 13 Girls: Amanda Edwards: 2:28:4 (Antigua)U 13 Boys: Dana White: 2:24.3 (St Kitts) U 15 Boys: Ayata Joseph 2:14.5 (Antigua)
4 x 100M – U -11 Girls: St Kitts 56.4 (Equalling Record)

The individual champions were as follows:
Under 11: Curlee Gumbs (Anguilla) 18 pts and Daniel Carty (Anguilla) 22 pts
Under 13: Deanna Wattley (BVI) 16 pts and Kelvin Thomas (BVI) 26 pts
Under 15: Celisia Maloney (Antigua) 19 pts and Khalid Brookes (Anguilla) 28 pts.

The victorious St Kitts team comprised of 35 athletes and 8 officials including the coach, Mr Stuart Joseph, a teacher at the Verchilds Primary School and the Manager, Mr Anthony Wiltshire of the Sandy Point Primary School.
