Year after year, Stockholm’s DN Galan produces one of the world’s premier athletics events and this year’s edition of the IAAF Diamond League meeting on 21 August promises to be no exception.

In addition to champions such as Renaud Lavillenie and Allyson Felix who have already been announced, events will be star-studded with the world’s best. Many events will be spiced with grudge matches following the recent European Championships in Zurich.

The three European medallists will compete in the men’s javelin and gold medallist Antti Ruuskanen from Finland will be keen to repeat his victory over compatriot Tero Pitkamaki, and Czech silver medallist and reigning world champion Vitezslav Vesely. Current world leader Ihab Abdelrahman El Sayed is also in the field. The Egyptian tops this year’s world list with a throw of 89.21m.

David Storl from Germany was one of the most impressive victors in Zurich when he won the shot with a putt of 21.41m. At DN Galan he will face not only fellow medallists Borja Vivas and Tomasz Majewski but also three top US throwers, world leader Joe Kovacs, world and Olympic medallist Reese Hoffa and former world champion Christian Cantwell.

The women’s 100m hurdles will see USA’s Dawn Harper-Nelson and Queen Harrison, currently first and second in the world this year, attack Gail Devers’ stadium record of 12.42. They are joined in the quest by Olympic champion Sally Pearson from Australia.

The men’s 400m hurdles includes the three fastest in the world this year: Javier Culson from Puerto Rico, Michael Tinsley from USA and South African Cornel Fredricks. Hurdles legend Felix Sanchez, the two-time Olympic champion, will also be in Stockholm.

The DN Galan is the eleventh meeting in the 2014 IAAF Diamond League series and the first after over a five-week break.
