Strong sprinting highlights Grigoryan Memorial

In 1993 the director of the Moscow sports school Edward Grigoryan organized a competition for junior athletes he named 'Stars of the 21st Century'. Ten years later this this competition was renamed the 'Grigoryan Memorial' and has since become an European Athletics Indoor Permit meeting for juniors. On Wednesday (15) the meeting took place for the 17th time, with athletes from five countries taking part.


A number of very good results emerged.


In the men's 60m Hurdles, 18-year-old Nikolay Lazarev (RUS) won in 8.19 ahead of Dmitry Vinogradov (8.26) and 17-year-old Alexey Kudryavtsev (8.27), both from Russia.


In the women's hurdles, Julia Dolzhkovaja from Ukraine won with 8.43. Victoria Shinamsky (8.67) from Belarus and Alina Gatsalova (8.76) from Russia followed.


In the 60m sprint, Russian Yevgeniy Kharin took the victory in 6.82, out-leaning teammate Alexander Zhiltsov who clocked 6.84. The women's dash was won by Russian Veronica Martyanov in 7.65, just ahead of Belarusian Victoria Byskovu's 7.67.


The women's Long Jump was won by  17-year-old Satenik Oganesjan of Armenia with a best effort of 6.13m. Polina Jurchenko (6.06m) of Russia was second.


Honours in the Pole Vault went to Alexey Berdnikov (5.20m) on the men's side and to 16-year-old Anna Chhaidze from Russia (4.10m) on the women's.


In the high jump two men were tied after 2.15m, with Herman Yermolaev finally prevailing over Vadim Vrublevsky on a jump off.


The triple jump was won by Artem Primak with a 15.86m effort.
