7 April 2000 Madrid - Cuban long jumper Ivan Pedroso and his Spanish rival Yago Lamela will continue their battle for supremacy in two street contests in Spain this year.
Competitions in Madrid on May 20 and a week later in Granada will bring together the two men who finished first and second at the IAAF World Championships in Seville last year.
Taking long jumping into the streets follows the trend of trying to make field events more attractive to the public. Pole vaulting and high jumping already have a number of well-established competitions held out of athletics stadia.
