Dietzsch could soon be back on track for defending her World Championships’ Discus Throw gold medal one more and final time.

The 41-year-old German improved her season’s best to 62.50 m on Wednesday evening (17) in Schönebeck near Magdeburg (Germany). After a disappointing start into the season in May this performance could give her a huge lift. Nadine Müller was second with 60.56m.

Feeling tired during her two competitions before Dietzsch did not even match the 60m mark. She then cancelled competitions and stopped taking medicine which had been prescribed due to her health problems last year. This now seems to have a positive effect. The tiredness could have been a side effect of the medcine she took.

“I think her improvement comes because she stopped taking the medcine,” said Dietzsch’s coach Dieter Kollark to German sports news agency sid. He added: “This result is the best I could have hoped for today. Franka is mentally positive now.”

The men’s Discus Throw also produced a fine result regarding Germany’s chances at the World Championships: Robert Harting won this event with a season’s best of 68.09 m. Peter Sack (20.38 m) and Nadine Kleinert (19.44) took the Shot Put.

Alexander Straub won a Pole Vault competition in Ingolstadt on Wednesday with 5.70m. Björn Otto took second with the same height, which matches the Berlin qualifying standard. Kristina Gadschiew was the women’s winner with 4.42 m.
