Timetable for 2003 World Championships in Athletics Paris St-Denis approved
17 May 2002 - Monaco - The official timetable of the 2003 World Championships in Athletics, which takes place from 23 - 31 August at the Stade de France, Paris St-Denis, has now been approved.
Following discussions among IAAF Council, IAAF Competitions Commission, TV and Marketing Partners and the Paris Local Organising Committee, the competition will take place on 9 consecutive days without a rest day. The aim is to standardise the IAAF timetable for World Championships and Olympic Games.
When establishing this timetable, consideration was given to those athletes who aim to double in the sprints (100m-200m), in certain middle and long distance events (800m-1500m and 5000m-10,000m) as well as in the Men’s Walk (20km-50km).
In the interests of the athletes, the tradition of having a rest day before the finals of all running events longer than 200m has been continued. But, for the first time in the history of the IAAF World Championships, a rest day has also been secured before the finals of all field events except the Shot Put.
