Tirlea gets married

girl Ionela Tirlea has wed partner Daniel Manolache.

The couple, who met at the World Championships in Edmonton three years ago, married on Saturday afternoon (20 March) at Ramnicu Valcea city hall.

Tirlea, the double European 400m Hurdles champion, became Madame Manolache in a small ceremony in front of 20 people.

Following the service, Tirlea said: "We will have the honeymoon after the Olympics in Athens. I benefited from the fact that I had two free weeks, and because Dan asked me to marry him, I decided that now it would be the ideal moment for something like this. We will invite more people in September when we'll have `the real' wedding.''

A fortnight ago she won the bronze medal in the 4x400 metres relay at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest. Among the first to have congratulated her after the race, to her surprise, was husband-to-be Daniel who travelled to the Hungarian capital unannounced.
