Tragic death for Norwegian Javelin record holder

The Norwegian javelin thrower Pål Arne Fagernes died in a car accident on Monday near Moss, Norway, the Norwegian Federation reported this morning.

Pål Arne Fagernes, 29, was a very talented javelin thrower with great potential, but was troubled with injuries for long periods of his career.

His best championship effort was his 4th place at the World Championships 1999 in Seville, he was also in the finals at the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000.

In his career he set a total of 8 national records and had won 4 national titles. At the time of his tragic death he was national record holder with 86.74.

His throwing style was typified by an extremely fast approach to the throwing line, and he will long be remembered in the javelin throwing community as one of the great characters of the event.
