Trio of world record holders on show
Agency reports

23 March 2000 – Pretoria, South Africa - Double Olympic champion Michael Johnson is one of a trio of world record holders who will compete in South Africa's premier athletics meeting on Friday evening.

The 32-year-old Texan will attempt to add the rarely run 300 metres world mark to his 200 and 400 world records after clocking the fourth fastest time ever over the 200 last Saturday.

The world record holder in men's javelin, Jan Zelezny of the Czech Republic, will take on South Africa's 1997 world champion Marius Corbett while veteran German Jürgen Schult, the world discus throw record holder, is also in the field. Zelezny has told organisers he is confident he will throw over 90 metres.

In the men's 400m hurdles: South African star Llewlellyn Herbert - who set this year's fastest time (48.50sec) for the event in Pietersburg - will compete against Australia's Blair Young and America's Torrance Zellner.

In the 100m men's sprint Senegal's Oumar Loum will be hoping to improve last week's winning time of 10.06 seconds and keep ahead of competitors Patrick van Balkom of the Netherlands and South African champion Matthew Quinn.
