Recorded at the Columbian Championships, which took place in Bogota at the beginning of June, Norma Gonzalez (1982) ran the 400m in 53.3 establishing a new under 18 area record. Another promising Columbian sprinter Jacner Palacios (1982) obtained a wind assisted 21.5 and an official 21.7 over 200m. Still in Bogota, Catherine Ibarguen high jumped 1.75, a new national record in the under 18 category.

From Brazil, Fernanda Procopio Delfino (1982) also jumped 1.75 and Thatiana Regina Ignacio (1983) ran the 100m in 12.10 at the Brazil National Championships in Rio de Janiero on June 3rd.

In Chile, two performances stand out: Magdalena Sanchez (1983) with 61.97 over the 400m hurdles and 46.06 for javelin thrower Odete Palma (1982) recorded in Santiago on June 6th.
