Age did not deter Appachu Chinnappa from winning the 2nd Times Bangalore International Marathon, India today (17 Sep) in a time of 2:25:19.  Ethiopia's Regassa Dejene Nigusse (2:25:27) and Bipul Sharma (Artillery Centre, Hyderabad) clocking 2:25:30 finished next.

Chinnappa, the winner of prestigious All-India Indira Marathon at Allahabad in 1999 with a pb of 2:21:58 had also won the Travancore Marathon held in Thiruvananthapuram three years ago.

Chinnappa (40) ran a tactical race with three Ethiopians through the picturesque Cubbon Park, Vidhan Soudha, Raj Bhavan before entering in to Sankey Road and Bellary Road on the Hebbal Flyover, while turning at K.R. Puram for a return-trip to the starting point at Sree Kanteerava Stadium.

The women's full marathon, a three-women contest saw Deepthi Ashok win in 4:13:13.
