Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Ethiopia’s World Cross Country short course silver medallist Werknesh Kidane is expecting a baby from husband-to-be Gebregziabher Gebremariam the former World Cross Country double silver medallist. The couple is also expected to tie the knot in a lavish wedding ceremony in two week’s time.

“We have planned this baby for a long time since we decided to marry early last year,” confirmed Kidane from her home in Addis Ababa. “Since there are no major championships this year, I decided to take a break from competition to have this baby.”

“It is great to have a child at a young age. I have completely stopped training since the end of October. I go to Church in the morning and am busy with housework in the afternoons. I am trying my best not to gain weight.”

Kidane, who won 10,000m silver in the 2003 World Championships in Paris, also added that she plans to return to competition in the very near future. “What I am thinking about now is that after having delivered this baby successfully, I hope to be ready for the World Championships in 2007. If not, I want to peak for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.”
