Women 200 metre semi finals

FacebookTwitterEmail

After lowering her own French national record to 22.49 with a world-leading performance in the first semifinal, Muriel Hurtis was feeling quite ecstatic, as well she should.

But she had created an infectious atmosphere with this superb run, as Michelle Collins of the US immediately replied with a tour of the Birmingham oval in 22.31, a time which has been bettered by only three other runners in indoor history.

Defending champion Juliet Campbell of Jamaica finished behind Collins in second with a season-best 22.84.

The event leader coming into Birmingham, Anastasiya Kapachinskaya of Russia (22.76), could not keep pace with the other hot runners although she won the remaining semifinal in a close finish with Cydonie Mothersill of the Cayman Islands (22.85).

The remaining finalist tomorrow will be Natalya Safronnikova of Belarus (22.91), who lowered her own national record while running behind Hurtis.
