Women 200m semi finals

The fastest time of today’s 200m semi finals was clocked in heat two by the USA’s Angel Perkins.

Winner of her semi final in 23.60 with impressive ease Perkins will line up for tomorrow’s final as the favourite for the title.

The only one to come close to Perkins’ performance was Great Britain’s Amy Spencer who will be the youngest among tomorrow’s finalists. Winner of heat three with a new personal best of 23.63, 15-year old Spencer has never yet lost a race over 200m.

Yet American champion Perkins whose personal best (23.14) is well above the field might change the Briton’sesume.

Czech’s Zuzana Kosova who won bronze in yesterday’s 100m final was the winner of heat three in 24.05 and will legitimate aim at another medal in these championships.

Other qualifiers for tomorrow’s final were Ivet Lalova (BUL), April Brough (NZL), Nelkis Casabona (CUB), Volha Varabei and Nadia Cocoranu (BLR).

The championships record of 23.38 will be under threat tomorrow if conditions remain favourable.
