Women 3000 metres Final

FacebookTwitterEmail

To noone’s great surprise, Ethiopia’s Berhane Adere was unstoppable in the women’s 3000 Metres.  In her winning 8:40.25, she was pursued until the final 100 metres by European 5K champion Marta Domínguez of Spain (8:42.17), who took the silver medal.

Winner Adere, as she always does, played a patient waiting game, not even moving up to the leading group until well into the second kilometer.  With 700 left,  she took the lead, and Domínguez went with her.

But there was not doubt about Adere’s resolve to win, as her last kilometer was 2:43.2.

Adere’s teammate, Meseret Defar, had designs on the silver medal herself, giving chase to Domínguez at the end and only slightly failing in her quest with 8:42.58.
