| The United States team, defending World Champion, clocked the fastest time of the heats. The team which included World Champions Inger Miller and Gail Devers, clocked the World Best Performance of the year with 42.28 in the first heat while Jamaica finished second in 42.36. The second heat was won by Bahamas in 42.40, followed up by Germany with 42.74. The Russian team did not finish the race, since the baton was handed over out of the zone in the last relay. The third heat was won by France, bronze medallists in Athens '97, in 42.31, while Nigeria was second thanks to an excellent final relay. |

El equipo de Estados Unidos, actual campeon del mundo,
realizo el mejor tiempo de las tres semifinales disputadas. El equipo americano, liderado
por las campeonas del mundo Inger Miller y Gail Devers batio la mejor marca del ano con
42.28 en la primera serie, mientras Jamaica fue segunda muy cerca 42.36. La segunda
semifinal vio el sorprendente triunfo de Bahamas con 42.40 clasificandose tambien Alemania
con 42.74. En esta serie no finalizo la carrera el equipo ruso, al entregar fuera de zona
el testigo en el ultimo cambio. La tercera semifinal fue ganada por el equipo frances,
bronce hace dos anos en Atenas con 42.31, mientras Nigeria quedo en segunda posicion
gracias a un gran ultimo relevo.  |
