Women's 60m hurdles heats

Olympic 100m hurdles champion Olga Shishigina, kicked her Lisbon campaign off sharply with a 7.98 victory in heat 4 of the 60m hurdles. The fastest time of the morning was run by France's Nicole Ramalalanirina, who clocked 7.93 in heat 2, ahead of Svetlana Laukhova (RUS) with 8.05 and Irina Lenskaya, who set a new Israeli record of 8.09. Britain's Melanie Wilkins set a personal best of 8.19 to qualify as a fastest loser from this heat as did Neyra Yahumara of Cuba (8.22).

Also impressive were Michelle Freeman (JAM), who cruised to 8.03 to win heat 3 from Juliane Sprenger (GER), Grant Bisa and Haiti's Nadine Faustin, and American hope Anjanette Kirkland, who capitalised on a great start to clock 8.04 ahead of Olena Ovcharova-Krasovska (UKR) and Linda Ferga (FRA) in heat 1.
