Gail Devers proved yet again that she refuses to let age slow her down. With a lunge in the final two steps, the 37-year-old won her third world title in the 60 metres with a seasonal best 7.08.

Concluding her coming-out indoor season, Kim Gevaert edged Yuliya Nesterenko in a photo finish by the narrowest of margins, with both stopping the clock in 7.12. For Gevaert, it was yet another Belgian national record.

US championships runner up Torri Edwards, who barely advanced to the final, was fourth in 7.16, one one-hundredths of second faster than her performance in the final in Birmingham last year, but one spot down for the defending bronze medallist.

Muriel Hurtis of France rode a seasonal best 7.17 to fifth place, just ahead of world leader Yuliya Tabakova, who was credited with the same time.  With the slowest start of the field, European 100m record holder Christine Arron was never in the hunt, and finished a distant seventh in 7.21.

With one day to rest, and the more “difficult” race out of the way, Devers will return to competition on Sunday to continue her unprecedented double attempt.
