Women Discus Throw Final

China’s Xuejun Ma took the gold medal, her compatriot Shaoyang Xu the current world leader in the discipline followed up with the silver medal for a Chinese double and an Asian medal sweep came as Seema Antil from India secured the bronze.

17-year-old Ma produced a faultless series , with the winning throw coming with her fourth effort, where she launched the discus out to an excellent 58.85 metres, enough to secure the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Xu enjoyed a constant progression in her series, outside a slight hiccough with her second effort, which she fouled and followed with her shortest throw of 53.90 metres. She then went on to produce 55.87 metres; 57.14m and her best effort with her sixth attempt of 57.87.

Antil had one fault in her series, fouling her third throw, but followed this with her best effort of 55.83 for the bronze medal.
