Women’s shot put Final

New Zealand’s Valerie Adams was well above the field in today’s shot put final. Adams achieved her best throw today at her second attempt when the put landed at 16.87m.

Even her worst attempt measured at 15.92 would have been sufficient for gold. Impressively consistent, Adams went beyond the 16-metre mark four times today fouling only one of her attempts.

New personal bests of 15.23 for the USA’s Michelle Carter and 15.08 for Belarus’ Yullia Leantsiuk weren’t sufficient to threaten the New Zealander.

Three different continents will be present on the women’s shot put podium.
