Women's 100m Hurdles

Today’s was USA’s Gail Devers’ seventeenth 100m Hurdles race of the year and her fourteenth victory of the season.

The American, who blamed her three losses of the year (in Zurich, London and Berlin) to technical mistakes, certainly made no errors and had a faultless run today.

Drawn in lane five Devers had the best start of the field and was already in the lead at the first obstacle with local heroine Glory Alozie (ESP) and Jamaica’s Bridgette Foster, running for the Americas, close behind.

When Devers starts fast and makes no mistake, it is virtually impossible to catch up with her and today’s race just confirmed this assumption.

Running in the outside lane, Foster, who has finished second seven times this season had to content with another second place finish and a time of 12.82.

Alozie, who had committed one false start, eventually finished third in 12.95 while behind the trio, hurdlers were fighting for positions.

Ukraine’s Yelena Krasovska, running for Europe was fourth in 13.07, the same time awarded to Madagascar’s Rosa Rakotozafy (AFR) in fourth.
