Women's 100m Hurdles - Round 1 - Flash Interviews

Doniqué FLEMINGS (USA)  1st in HEAT 1-  13.50

I’m feeling pretty well. I did pretty well. My start was not that good, but other than that, I’m satisfied with the race. Just to qualify for the next round.

I just wanted  to get out, and I knew the rest of the race would be pretty good for me.

[I want to get] a personal record, my PR is 13.33, so if I can hit that or better, then I’ll be happy.

Govindharaj Gayathri (IND) – 3rd in HEAT 1 – 13.59 (National Junior Record)

I’m really happy today because I ran my best. In India I have not run below 13.80. I felt that this competition would be very close and that I could run my best. I took the lead first then kept the lead until the 5th or 6th hurdle and that’s when I felt them go past me. But I made it to the finals.

Nooralotta NEZIRI (FIN) - 1st in HEAT 2 - 13:54
It went O.K. I had a few problems, but it's good for a start.

At this time, I'm satisfied, but I have to do much better.

Well, it (my start) was not so good. I can do better, but this race was O.K. I'm happy I won, so that's enough.

Chanice CHASE (CAN) – 7th in HEAT 2 -  14.32

I’m not feeling too good. My legs are still tired from the 400 this morning. Doing two races in one day at this level is really hard, and I didn’t get out as good as I wanted to. I hit the first hurdle, which pretty much messed up the rest of my race. It just wasn’t my day. I’ll come back and try again next time.

Jenna PLETSCH (GER) - 1st in HEAT 3 - 13.38

It was good. I didn't think that I would run such a good race, but it was good. Technically, I had a few problems, but it was fast, and it feels good.

I'm happy about my time. For the first race, it's good.

I have to work on my technique: more arms and the lead leg, and then it will happen. Faster, hopefully!

Ashley MADDEX (CAN) – 4th in HEAT 3  - 13.82 (Personal Best)

I’m really happy about [the personal best]. It seemed really fast. When I was with them, I thought, I have to be fast, I have to be fast.

It’s World Juniors, so it’s a tough race.

I just wanted a PB. My mind went blank [before the race] and I thought, it’s go time. [I thought] just keep running, just keep running. The start seemed fast, but it’s kind of a blur, to be honest.

I’m happy with the PB. I wanted to do the best I could. If it’s good enough, it’ll get me in the finals.

I was aggressive. I hit the hurdles. Definitely be aggressive, and keep going, keep going. Pump your arms. Fast feet.

Miriam HEHL (GER) – 1st in HEAT 4 – 13.49

It was a very good race technically and I recognized that I was first and so I tried to run easy and secure the race. I now only think to the semi-final.

That’s the next step I have to take.
