Ana Guevara of Mexico representing the Americas didn't enter the finishing straight of the women's 400m with her customary 5 to 10 metre lead which we have witnessed so often this season.

The Mexican who was one of four athletes to share this season's IAAF Golden League Jackpot had as usual a good start but as the 300 metres point was reached she surprisingly still had the company of USA's 36 year-old Jearl Miles-Clark, who kept up a determined drive for home.

Guevara was the strongest and as she crossed the line kissing to the spectators in celebration of her win, the clock showed 49.56. Miles-Clark hung on strongly finishing second in 50.27, with Russia's European champion Olesya Zykina third in 50.67.

Europe's Lee McConnell the former high jumper from Scotland was fourth also under 51 seconds (50.82).
