Shaunae Miller won the 400m final for the Bahamas in 52.52, the slowest winning time in World Junior championships history.

Chantel Malone of the Virgin Islands led the field on the backstretch, but by the halfway mark it was clear that the two Nigerians, Margaret Etim and Bukola Abogunloko, were also moving up, and on the corner Etim took over the lead. At that point, Miller set to work, following Etim out of the corner and then walking down the over-eager Nigerian on the homestretch.

Etim, despite her late-race struggles, held on to second as Romania's Bianca Razor came up to take third, punctuating her teammate Elena Lavric's gold in the 800m just minutes before.

Miller had the slowest reaction time at the start, partly due to her being cautioned after the field came up early in the initial starting cycle. She is only the second gold medalist for the Bahamas in the history of the World Juniors, with Sheniqua Ferguson taking gold in the 200m in 2008.
