Women's 4x100m

Four women from four countries came together to produce a thrilling successful title defence in the 4x100 victory for the Americas team.

Jamaican Aleen Bailey, Bahamian Debbie Ferguson, Cydonie Mothersill from the Cayman Islands and another Jamaican, Sherone Simpson, fought off a fierce Russian quartet to win by a full tenth-of-a-second in 42.26.

Finishing a distant third was Team Africa in 43.61.

NB. A protest by both European and USA teams regarding the second leg change over was later rejected by the Jury of Appeal.
