The United States of America’s 4x100m women’s relay ran the fastest junior time of the year 43.44 to win their fourth consecutive title in the event in the fastest time since Jamaica’s competition record 8 years ago.
200m individual champion Stormy Kendrick was fastest out of the blocks and after she safely handed the baton to 100m silver medallist Takeia Pinckney the US team only needed concentrating on taking the stick through to anchor leg Ashley Collier to secure only their second gold medal of the championships.
The reigning European 4x100m champion, Germany filed in a team which included individual 100m finalists Leena Günther and Tatjana Pinto and closed in second with a new national junior record 43.74.
Running arguably the most impressive leg was double bronze medallist Jamile Samuel who was left with some decent ground to make up as she was handed the baton in fourth position. Samuel not only caught up with Jamaica anchor leg Danielle Williams, she powered through the line to clock a Netherlands national junior record 44.09, adding yet another bronze to her medal tally.
Interestingly, it was Heptathlon champion Dafne Schippers who ran the opening leg for the Dutch team.
There was drama for the British team who failed to secure the first baton exchange between Rebekah Wilson and individual 100 champion and 200 silver medallist Jodie Williams.
