Sophie HITCHEN (GBR) GOLD66.01m

I’m feeling very tired. It was just exhausting. I got a bit tired between the middle two rounds, but I just thought, well, this is my last time, so I better go for it, or else I’m not going to win, which I really wanted to.

After the qualifying [round], I did really think that I had a good chance, so I just wanted to keep calm and focus on the day, because anything can happen when you get through to the final.
My grandparents are here. They always come watch me and everything, so they’re a great help. My mom and dad will be back at home excited, jumping up and down.

The weather doesn’t help me, because obviously, I’m from Britain and it’s never normally quite this hot. But it was neck and neck between me and the Slovanian all the way through, so it was a really good competition.

Barbara ŠPILER (SLO) - SILVER MEDAL - 65.28 m

I’m so happy, and tired. I think I did very well.

1I feel I can throw 66 metres, but this is good.

[On losing on the last throw] No, it was okay. I’m so happy.

Next? I have holidays!

Li ZHANG (CHN) - BRONZE MEDAL - 63.96m

I felt very good today and I am happy with a bronze medal. I want to say a special thank you to the University of Moncton, to the Moncton area and the spectators. I want to thank my city in China as well.
