Blanka Vlasic of Croatia has dominated the season and won the World Championship, and it came as no surprise to see her the only woman over 2.00m here in Stuttgart. Vlasic, who suggested in Friday's press conference that a direct increase in height from 2.00m to 2.07m or 2.08m might not be an successful approach to setting a world record, had the bar raised to 2.05m instead.

Vlasic had two close attempts at that height before misstepping and plowing through the bar on her third attempt.

Second place went to Antonietta Di Martino of Italy, who along with Russia's Anna Chicherova was one of two to clear 1.97m, but Di Martino cleared on her first attempt, Chicherova on her third. Up to that height, nearly the entire field was in contention.
