Women’s javelin throw final

20 October 2000 – Jarmila Klimesova strengthened the reputation for javelin throwing success established by Jan Zelezny, when she took the gold medal at the World Junior Championships here on Friday with a last-gasp, last-round 54.82 metres.

Not even ranked in the medal positions after five rounds, - her second best throw was a mere 52.17 - Klimesova’s sixth effort clinched a tight competition, where less than four metres covered the top seven.

Neither Latvia’s Inga Kozarenko nor Belarus’s Halina Kakhava could respond, and had to accept relegation to silver and bronze medals at the last, with their best efforts of 54.64 and 54.26, while Poland’s Magdalena Czenska was left distraught having missed out on the bronze medal at the very last.
