Women's Pole Vault

It didn’t take Yelena Isinbayeva long to collect the one major international title missing from her collection – just one jump, to be precise.

The 24-year-old Russian star, the Olympic, World and European champion, began the competition with a hefty clearance at 4.60m, but couldn’t manage 4.80, but nonetheless left the stadium that hosted her Olympic triumph with a competition record.

Scoring a minor upset was Brazil’s Fabiana Murer, the only other competitor to sail over 4.55, to collect 8 points for the Americas team. The 25-year-old Brazilian, who raised her Area Record to 4.66 in Brussels, had a pair of close attempts at 4.60 before exiting the competition.

With a 4.50 season’s best, China’s Shuying Gao collected seven points for Team Asia, while Poland’s  Monica Pyrek produced a disappointing outing, clearing just 4.30 to finish fifth.
