Women's Triple Jump final - Flash Interviews

Dailenys ALCANTARA (CUB)GOLD14.09m

I came here expecting to win the gold medal. I was only looking at my performance because I knew I could win the medal.

I wasn’t feeling good because of the weather - I was cold but I still wanted to win the competition. I had problems getting adapted to this weather. In Cuba it’s very hot and here it is very cold.

I’ve always heard of Yamile Aldama (former Cuban triple jump world champion medalist), but I’ve never had the opportunity to meet her. Obviously I would love to be like her.

Laura SAMUEL (GBR) - SILVER - 13.75m  (NJ)

My first one was a foul, and then I got one to sort of get through to the next round. I got a national level record - 13.75m.

Coming into it, I was ranked fifth, so I was targeting that. Now I’ve got the silver medal! I’m on top of the world right now. I wouldn’t have done anything differently. I’ve just got the silver medal, I’m just happy right now.

It’s absolutely insane [in the camp], because Jodie’s (Williams) got her gold medal and it’s really exciting.

Next, Commonwealth Games is coming up next and I’m going to target that next.

Lina DENG (CHN) - BRONZE - 13.72

It was pretty good.

My second jump was the best one. After the second jump, I just wanted to try again to do better, but then I didn’t do so well in speeding up, so I couldn’t get a better jump after that.

This is my best jump ever. I got that feeling that I could do better next time. I figured out how to improve and I can do better.

When I go back to China, I have the national championships in August. I’ll try my best [to win] because the other athletes are pretty good too.
