Marking the conclusion of the IAAF’s current strategic policy, the Athletics’ World Plan 2003-2012 which was designed to ensure that the sport of Athletics and its world governing body was fit and ready for the tasks of the next 100 years, a special award ceremony took place in the Arts Hotel today.

The Spirit of World Plan Awards, which were presented by IAAF President Lamine Diack, were created to acknowledge outstanding initiatives that have exemplify the achievements of the Athletics’ World Plan in each of the six continental Areas of the IAAF.

AFRICA – Botswana
Botswana has introduced a range of initiatives to provide appropriate training opportunities, educational assistance and financial support for athletes who otherwise would not be able to continue in the sport.

ASIA – China
China has become the hub of competition for the Asian Area and has organised many events at the national, regional and international level including the first ever National Kids’ Athletics Games.

EUROPE – Estonia
Estonia has been very proactive in organising highly successful competitions at the national, regional and European level.

NACAC – British Virgin Islands
The British Virgin Islands revived the Leeward Islands Championships that was absent for years and succeeded in not only hosting the event but successfully bringing together the countries that make up the Area.

OCEANIA – French Polynesia
French Polynesia has adopted the IAAF Kids’ Athletics programme widely and through the efforts of the Federation has had the programme officially adopted by the Government for inclusion in the school curriculum.

SOUTH AMERICA – Brazil
Brazil has introduced the IAAF / Nestlé Kids’ Athletics programme throughout the country but particularly in the State of Parana where it has been most successful.

Prix récompensant l’Esprit du Plan mondial

Une cérémonie spéciale de remise de prix s’est déroulée aujourd’hui à l’hôtel Arts, marquant ainsi le terme de la politique stratégique actuelle de l’IAAF, contenue dans le Plan mondial pour l’athlétisme 2003-2012. Ce dernier a été conçu pour garantir que l’athlétisme et son instance dirigeante soient adaptés et prêts pour les missions qui les attendent lors des cent prochaines années.

Les Prix récompensant l’Esprit du Plan mondial qui ont été remis par Lamine Diack, le Président de l’IAAF, ont été créés pour distinguer des initiatives exceptionnelles qui ont illustré la réussite du Plan mondial pour l’athlétisme dans chacune des six zones continentales de l’IAAF.

AFRIQUE – Botswana
Le Botswana a introduit toute une série d’initiatives visant à fournir à certains athlètes des opportunités d’entraînement, une assistance en matière de formation et un soutien financier adaptés, sans lesquels ceux-ci ne pourraient continuer à pratiquer l’athlétisme.

AMÉRIQUE DU SUD – Brésil
Le Brésil a introduit le programme Kids’ Athletics de l’IAAF / Nestlé dans tout le pays, et notamment dans l’état fédéral du Paraná, où sa réussite a été la plus manifeste.

ASIE – Chine
La Chine est devenue la plaque tournante des compétitions en Asie. Elle a organisé  de nombreuses épreuves aux niveaux national, régional et international, dont les tout premiers Jeux nationaux Kids’ Athletics.

EUROPE – Estonie
L’Estonie s’est montrée particulièrement active en organisant des compétitions extrêmement bénéfiques aux niveaux national, régional et européen.

NACAC – Îles vierges britanniques
Les Îles vierges britanniques ont relancé les Championnats des Îles Sous-le-Vent qui n’étaient plus organisés depuis des années. Elles ont non seulement réussi à organiser l’épreuve mais également à rassembler les pays qui constituent la zone.

OCÉANIE – Polynésie française
La Polynésie française a utilisé à grande échelle le programme Kids’ Athletics de l’IAAF et, grâce aux efforts de la Fédération, ce programme a été adopté officiellement par le gouvernement afin de l’intégrer au cursus scolaire.
