Botswana’s Nijel Amos is the man to beat this season. The 20-year-old leads the world with his 1:42.45 clocking at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Monaco, and later confirmed his shape by winning the Commonwealth and African titles.

His Africa team-mate is world champion Mohammed Aman. The Ethiopian has been beaten by Amos in their past four clashes and clocked a season’s best of 1:42.83 when finishing second to him in Monaco.

If one man is capable of beating Amos, then it’s European champion Adam Kszczot, who won at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Stockholm when Amos finished a distant fifth.

Others to watch include the Americas team duo of Duane Solomon and Wesley Vasquez, and Asia-Pacific’s Abdulrahman Bala of Qatar, who has clocked 1:44.03 this season.
