The Americas will be targeting maximum points in this event via Francena McCorory and Novlene Williams-Mills, the two quickest in the field on this year’s performances.

World indoor champion McCorory has led the world list for much of the summer and enjoyed IAAF Diamond League wins in New York and Glasgow, but Williams-Mills has had better late-season form, which culminated in winning the Diamond Race.

European silver and gold medallists Olha Zemlyak and Libania Grenot were fourth and fifth respectively behind the Jamaican at the IAAF Diamond League decider in Brussels – both well ahead of McCorory – and will be serious contenders.

Nigeria’s former world junior champion Folasade Abugan will be full of confidence after winning the African title in Marrakech last month ahead of Kabange Mpopo, who broke the Zambian record to take silver.

Anneliese Rubia and Louise Jones have both lowered their personal bests this season, but this will be a tough test for the Asia-Pacific runners.
