The Americas team boasts the top two women on this year’s world list with USA’s Ajee Wilson and Cuba’s Sahily Diago, but the race is still wide open as they will be up against world champion Eunice Sum and European champion Marina Arzamasova.

At the European Championships in Zurich, Arzamasova won her first major title with a PB of 1:58.15. Britain’s Lynsey Sharp, who finished second at the European Championships and at the IAAF Diamond League final in Brussels, could be Europe’s top scorer in Marrakech.

Sum will be joined on the African team by Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa. The 17-year-old has improved her PB by two seconds this year, running a PB of 1:59.24 at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Lausannne.

Team Asia-Pacific will be represented by Indian record-holder Tintu Luka and Angela Smit from New Zealand.
