Coming fresh from Berlin where she set a world record of 79.58m, Anita Wlodarzcyk is the big favourite. The Polish thrower is enjoying an amazing season, first setting a PB of 78.76m to win the European title, then setting a world record two weeks later.

Martina Hrasnova, also from team Europe, is the continental silver medallist and ranks sixth on this year’s world list with 75.27m.

Wang Zheng, who earlier this year broke the Asian record with 77.68m, could also gain valuable points for the Asia-Pacific team, but she hasn’t thrown beyond 72.50m since June.

The two women who share the North American record – Sultana Frizell and Amanda Bingson – will represent the Americas team. But, like Wang, their best marks came in the early part of the season.

Another area record-holder, Senegal’s Amy Sene, will compete for the African team, but her PB of 69.70m puts her outside the top 40 on this year’s world list.
