Russia’s Maria Kuchina is the arguable top high jumper of 2014, sharing the world indoor crown and then winning the Diamond Race. Her only significant defeat came at the European Championships in Zurich, where she finished to the vastly experienced Ruth Beitia.

The Spaniard won’t be in Marrakech; instead, Kuchina will be supported on the European team by Croatia’s Ana Simic, the European bronze medallist.

Kuchina will be the only woman in Marrakech to have jumped higher than 2.00m this year, although Simic has come within one centimetre of that height.

The Americas team features USA’s 2012 world indoor champion Chaunte Lowe and Saint Lucia’s world finalist Levern Spencer, who boasts a season’s best of 1.96m.

Asian record-holder Svetlana Radzivil from Uzbekistan leads the Asia-Pacific team, but the loudest cheers will be reserved for Morocco’s African champion Ghizlane Siba.
