Having run in the 2012 final, where he finished fifth as well as picking up a bronze medal in the 4x400m two years ago, world leader and national junior record holder Machel Cedenio wants to emulate his fellow Trinidadian Renny Quow and win the global junior title.

Cedenio has run 45.23 this year but should have a close battle with Americans Michael Cherry (45.37) and Tyler Brown (45.74).

South Africa’s Barend Koekemoer (45.97) will also be in contention for a podium finish, something which no African 400m junior has achieved at these Championships for a decade.
