Heir of a successful tradition, world junior leader Axel Chapelle is looking to become the second Frenchman to win the global junior title, 24 years after 1996 Olympic champion Jean Galfione.
In his last competition before heading to Eugene, the European junior silver medallist no-heighted, but Chapelle has a best of 5.52m this year.
First and second at last year’s World Youth Championships, Briton Harry Coppell and China’s Huang Bokai are also looking to repeat their success in Eugene.
Germany’s Oleg Zernikel, USA’s Cole Walsh and Devin King and Norwegian junior record-holder Eirik Greibrokk Dolve are also expected to fight hard for the medals.
