The long relay has been a US domain for years – the last time they didn't win was in 2000, when they didn't enter a team – but the USA has not put together a junior team so far in 2014, so the list is led by Cuba (3:36.15), Jamaica (3:37.65), and Nigeria (3:37.68).

The fourth mark on the year’s list is by a single US high school, Long Beach Poly, at 3:38.05; with Kendall Baisden and Shamier Little on the team, the USA can expect to run notably faster than that in Eugene.

Also intriguing is the presence of an Indian junior quartet 10th on the 2014 list; they should have a good chance of reaching the final, and their 3:40.53 mark is just .03 from their national junior record.
