22nd IAAF WORLD RACE WALKING CUP
LA CORUÑA, SPAIN – SATURDAY 13 & SUNDAY 14 MAY 2006

Date & Location of Award of Competition
The Competition was awarded to La Coruña by the IAAF Council at their meeting in in Berlin (November 2003). The dates were approved during the Council in Athens (August 2004).

General Comments
La Coruña is the host of one leg of the IAAF Race Walking Challenge, and has organised more than 18 editions of the International Walking meet.

La Coruña is located in the north-west of Spain. Its population is approx. 243,000 inhabitants.

La Coruña is an Atlantic city with a very mild climate (influence of the Gulf Stream). By the time of the Cup, it should be around 20°C, 60% of humidity.

It has its own airport connected to Madrid (26 daily flights) and Barcelona and will be considered as the official airport. Should participants arrive late, a backup would be Santiago de Compostella.

The Course
The course will start in the centre of the city and will follow a route parallel to the port so as to attract many spectators. The course will be 2000m long, flat and situated at sea level, also protected from the wind.

Timetable
The timetable was approved by August 2005 and was amended in November 2005 as per the request of TVE (HB) who wants to broadcast live the 20K.

The Host Broadcaster is TVE.
