Flavious Teresa Kwamboka lead a Kenyan one-two, showing a useful turn of speed in the last 100m after a slow start to the race.

Winny Chebet was second in 2:08.15 and Australia’s Katherine Katsanevakis took the bronze with 2:08.35.

Kwamboka and Katsanevakis led the field through 200m and these two were still at the forefront when the bell was reached in 64 seconds.

The pack were still tightly grouped in the back straight and it was Kwamboka who pulled away around the bend, followed by Chebet.
