Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva set a new World and World Indoor record of 4.83m, having earlier cleared a 4.81 World Indoor record in the women's Pole Vault at the 15th Pole Vault Stars - EAA indoor permit - meeting, today.
The event is organised by the now retired men's World record holder and six time World champion, Sergey Bubka, who is an IAAF Council member.
"This is just great, setting the record in Donetsk in front of the greatest pole vaulter himself," said the 21-year-old Russian in reference to Ukraine's Bubka.
In an absorbing competition Isinbayeva, 21, first broke the old World indoor record (4.80m) by clearing 4.81 on her first attempt. In response to which the deposed world record holder Svetlana Feofanova, 23, then raising the bar by a centimetre in an attempt to immediately reclaim the record but failed all three attempts at 4.82.
However, while Feofanova had to settle for second place with a best jump of 4.72, Isinbayeva was not finished. She set the bar at 4.83 and cleared it on her first vault.
"I was spurred on by Feofanova. She really pushed me by raising the bar at 4.82, and made me go for 4.83."

Feofanova, the World Indoor and outdoor champion, had established the old record of 4.80m when winning the former of those titles in Birmingham, England last winter. In that final, Feofanova beat Isinbayeva who on that occasion could only clear 4.60m for silver.
Isinbayeva's record vault today, which came in her third competition of this winter, also betters the outdoor World record (4.82m) which she set in Gateshead, England, on 13 July last year.
The World senior indoor silver and outdoor bronze medallist, who also took the European Under-23 title in 2003, is now in the exceptional position of holding all three World records for the discipline, as she is still the holder of the junior mark (4.47m, 2001).
Italy's Guiseppe Gibilisco won the men's competition in Donetsk with a vault of 5.82 metres which was a national indoor record.
