World and Olympic champion Valerie Adams just concluded her South American experience unbeaten and with an area record to top it all. She tells IAAF fans all about it…

“My trip to Brazil was a fantastic success!  My expectations were totally blown away and the whole experience was terrific.

“The organisers of the South American Grand Prix series were awesome to me.  They really looked after me during my trip; nothing was too much trouble for them.  Rio was my first stop and I loved the heat as soon as I arrived.

“I came home from the trip with another National and Oceania record.   I had three competitive meets within the space of a week which I don’t often get the chance.  Natalia Mikhnevich, another top woman from Belarus was there for all three meets and she threw really well and made sure I had to be on the top of my game to win.

“It was also great to come up against the top two Cuban women as well.  I threw 20.69m in the first meet in Rio de Janerio, it was awesome and I felt great, and a good reward for all the work I got through in the last block of training.  The next two comps I had still good 20m throws and was happy to have a clean sweep.

“Apart from the competitions in Brazil, I enjoyed drinking the coconuts with Cleopatra Borel-Brown (Trinidad & Tobago) and eating the lovely fruit especially the mangoes, I loved those.

“Also got the chance to go and see the Cristo statue in Rio, that was so amazing and the markets in Belem rocked so a great trip all round.

“Now I am back at home in the cold weather and training really hard looking forward to the next phase in preparations for the World Champs.

“Til next time”

Val
