Double World 200m champion Allyson Felix updates us on her latest competitions from the Trials to her first races back in Europe, and recalls her family’s display of support for her in Eugene.
“Hi everybody!”
“Sorry, it’s been a while since my last update.”
“I'm very relieved that the U.S. Olympic Trials are over and now I can work on specific details to my race, the 200m, for the Olympics. I'm pleased at the way the trials went for me. I loved the atmosphere of Hayward Field. The fans were amazing, it was motivating walking into a full stadium each day.”
“I was disappointed by not making the team in the 100m but all year long I knew it would be extremely difficult because of the depth America has in the sprints. I feel my focus on the 100m will help me with the front end of my 200m and I'm looking to see the hard work pay off in the Olympics.”
“I thought the time in the 200m (21.82w) despite the wind was decent but I know it will take a lot more to be successful at the Olympics. I felt like I needed to improve on the first 80m of my race and work on running a much tighter curve.”
“My competition schedule will be limited until the Olympics. I just got back from Rome where I won the 400m (50.25) and as of now I will run another one in Stockholm (22 July) and the 100m and 200m in London (25 July).”
“A lot of people might have seen my mom and dad and brother Wes at the Trials. They were wearing promotional shirts with a picture of me on it.”
“My mom Marlean had spinal surgery a little over a month ago due to an accident she suffered last year. Her recovery is going very well.”
“She was determined to come support me at Trials despite having to wear a neck brace 24 hours a day for many weeks. She wanted to have the surgery done now so that she should be able to take the brace off before the Olympics as long as her spine is healing properly.”
