In her latest IAAF Online Diary, Allyson Felix updates her fans on what she's been doing on and off the track as she looks forward to the start of the outdoor season and the all-important U.S. Olympic Trials. Besides training, Felix took time out to participate in two conferences, including an Olympic conference at her alma mater USC.

“Things have been really busy.

“It feels like the season is right around the corner and I'm so excited. I can't wait to open up with a few relays as I traditionally have at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational (April 14) and the Mt. San Antonio College Relays (April 21). The U.S. Olympic Trials will be here before you know it.

“Right now I'm in an extremely intense period of training. It's been pretty exhausting but I'm excited to see all of this hard work pay off.

“At the USATF Classic in Fayetteville last month where I set a PR of 7.10m in the 60m. The time broke my mark of 7.32 run way back in 2004.

“I was really excited to run the the 60m. I really wanted to see what improvement I made since focusing a lot on technique in practice. It was my only 60m of the year and I didn't prepare specifically for that race but it was encouraging to see where I'm at this early point of the year.

“Afterward I posed for a photo with other athletes holding a bib number in the memory of Geoff Hollister, who had passed away earlier in the week. I'm grateful for Geoff Hollister's contribution to track and field, for being so forward thinking and innovative.

“I was recently a part of two panel discussions. I just got back from the SXSW festival in Austin where I spoke on a panel that Jimmy Fallon hosted called “Digital Sport: Know More Do More” where we discussed the importance of data and statistics and the role it plays in training.

“Last month, I was part of an Olympic panel discussion “The Road to London” at my alma mater USC with Lashinda Demus and swimmers Rebecca Soni, Ous Mellouli and Jessica Hardy. It's always fun to come back to USC and it was interesting to be a part of the panel. I got to learn a lot more about other athletes’ mental states and how they handle major competitions.

“IOC president Jacques Rogge and announcers Jim Lampley and Jim Nantz also participated in the USC Olympic conference. Sebastian Coe, who was in Los Angeles to speak at the opening session of the IOC Conference on Women and Sport, made a visit to the USC track which was used as a warmup and practice facility for the 1984 Olympics.”

“Shout out to everyone who competed at the World Indoor Championships. Just got a chance to check out the coverage. Great performances.”
