Sotherton’s excellent 800m effort ending with a huge personal best 2:09.95 was just short of the needed 7.7 seconds margin before Tia Hellebaut (BEL), who stumbled over the finish line 6.47 seconds behind Sotherton in 2:16.42 to take the gold medal.
